Dragon Front Preview

“There was a time between the waning age of enchantment and the dawning age of logic when dragons ruled the skies….” Anyone out there remember that line? Well if not, it was from The Flight of Dragons – a straight-to-video animated film from 1982 that happens to be pretty awesome. Well after that brief nostalgic moment, let’s get down to business…. Despite having the word “Dragon” in its title, from the beta version that I previewed I didn’t actually come across any dragons. Now, of course this is not the finished version and I only tried one battle, so I’m still expecting to see dragons in the completed version. Let me firstly start by saying Role Playing Games are not my preferred…

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey funds web-trolling pro-Trump hate campaign

No, this headline isn’t a joke. The Daily Beast today revealed that Oculus founder Palmer has been personally funding an anti-Hilary, pro Trump campaign focused around “shitposting”, web trolling and offensive memes. Yes, really. Let’s make it clear, The Rift Arcade isn’t associated with Oculus or Palmer Luckey. Nor do we have any thoughts or associations with American politics (we’re a site based in England where we have our own political problems). Nevertheless, this is a deeply disappointing and worrying news story. One that we initially thought was a satire piece (because, honestly, how can one person be so stupid, anti-humanity and ignorant). What this means for Oculus, its relationship with Facebook and VR gaming in general is unclear; but…

Ahros: One Warrior Chronicle coming to Oculus Rift

Fly a dragon, fire weapons and restore peace in this action-packed VR game. What happens when you combine dragon flight, turret battles, gliders, mech battles and racing? You get Ahros: One Warrior Chronicle, an action-adventure game coming to Steam and the Oculus Rift September 29th. It sounds awfully ambitious, with lots to do and see. Here’s a YouTube video of the game in action: With such a vast amount of promised content, the developers are initially launching the game in Steam Early Access, with promises to fine-tune it’s gameplay over the coming months. Initially only one location with six missions will be available on launch, with more coming at a later date. Nevertheless, Ahros: One Warrior Chronicle looks like an…

Combat Air Patrol 2 Review

After watching Top Gun yet again, I had the urge to don my Oculus CV1, climb into my Obutto cockpit (complete with Xrocker gaming chair and flight controls) and engage in battle over Hormuz….. Back in 1993 there was a game released on the pc’s of that era (think Amiga 500, Dos PC’s etc) called Combat Air Patrol under the Psycnosis label.  I never had the opportunity of playing the game back then as I did not own any of those formats. Fast Forward to 2016 and Combat Air Patrol 2 is in production but at Early Access stage (although it was actually released in June this year).  The aircraft of choosing is a Harrier Jump Jet and your Battling…

Symphony Between Worlds – Demo

This is a demo of an upcoming project, please understand, and we hope that you enjoy it. Aim to the objects to interact with them. In the first scene aim to the eye and stay there for about 4 seconds, then follow the instructions shown. After all inspect the phonograph, and when the music starts playing inspect your sorroundings (hint: there are 6 things hidden in the scene). Basically, we’re trying to tell a story about memories and music; the demo features contents learned by manipulation of Unity, Blender & other software. Hands on with EVE: Valkyrie alpha on the Oculus Rift

Expectations for EVE: Valkyrie are sky-high in the build-up to the Oculus Rift launch. Which is understandable, given it’s one of two games to be pre-bundled with the headset (the other being Lucky’s Tale), while promising to bring action-packed space shooting to life in virtual reality. This week we were fortunate enough to get access to the EVE: Valkyrie alpha, and although we were limited to playing the game on the Oculus Rift DK2 headset, we came away impressed by the sheer action, graphical fidelity and VR implementation. Here’s a quick round of the game in action: The alpha is currently limited to basic multiplayer and a single tutorial level, with the single player campaign and objective-based multiplayer launching alongside the final game in March 2016….

Windlands hits Steam Early Access with 20% off

Windlands was possibly our favourite experience for the Oculus Rift DK1. It mixed Spiderman-like rope swinging with death-defying first-person platforming to make for one heck of an experience, and ever since those early days of pixelated DK1 gaming the team behind the game has continued to work tirelessly to improve the core experience, level design and graphics. Finally, after what seems like an eternity, the full game has been unleashed on Steam Early Access with 20% the asking price. For those with any interest in first-person platforming it’s definitely worth checking out. We’ll bring you a full review soon, but be assured that the $14.99/£11.99 price includes bags of gameplay and a uniquely challenging game that feels perfectly at home…

Marble Mountain confirmed for Q2 2016

Innovative puzzle game coming to the Oculus Rift shortly after launch. We recently went hands-on with Marble Mountain and came away impressed by its colourful graphics and inventive gameplay, but there was clearly work to be done with its control scheme and graphics. Now the team is back with more details about the final game and a launch date: Q2 2016. That puts the game in launch window for the final Oculus Rift headset, with shipping estimates now in the May/June window (based at the time of writing). Confirmed for the final game are 25 levels spread across spooky graveyards, ancient temples, volcanoes, deserts and more; with cinematic set-pieces which include avalanches, waterfalls and tumbling boulders. Here’s the official press…
